The Critic With A Heart

I had a book which only took
a day for me to read.
I must confess, I’m self-obsessed with finishing at speed.

And of this book, which only took a day for me to drain.
I thought the prose was mighty close to driving me insane.

It had no plot and lacked a lot
of structure to its text.
I cannot start to call it art. It really got me vexed.

The title sucked, I wasn’t hooked
by badly written blurb.
The cover pic just made me sick, its concept quite absurd.

But being me, I hate to see
my critique seeming sore.
I’ll hold my tongue and play along and join the book blog tour.

I’ll say it’s cool, despite the fool
who thinks that he can write.
And once again I’ll recommend when honestly? It’s shite.

Opinions count, but casting doubt can ruin an author’s head.
“I can’t believe you cannot see, the best thing since sliced bread!” …. some might say.

So I will do a fair review but never go too far.
Yet books I hate – I’ll tell you straight – will only get 2 stars …. maybe 3.

As now’s the time to end this rhyme, I’ll close with this impart.
I cannot do a bad review,
It’s not within my heart.
That’s somewhat tame and kind of lame, I hear the readers call.
But best to rate a book not great than rate no books at all.
